Nishijin-ori products are given a membership number called the Nishijin Textile Cooperative Association's certificate number. This is a fixed number given to each member company of the Nishijin Textile Industrial Association.
Attention to ingredients
The Nishijin fabric used in Plus Talk sneakers is also woven by a weaver who is a member of the union.
At the beginning, we tried making the prototype using a silk fabric similar to that used for Nishijin-ori obi, but the delicate threads and patterns made it weak in terms of strength and resistance to rain. Even after applying a coating, the delicacy of the colors and patterns was lost, so we made the bold decision to change from silk thread to polyester thread.
Even among formal Nishijin textiles, many are woven with polyester thread, and are used for costumes in historical dramas, many stage costumes, and costumes for Hina dolls and May dolls.
This makes it possible to produce a sneaker that is strong enough for practical use while still preserving the atmosphere of the colors and patterns.
We also use leather materials that are soft and comfortable to wear, and have skilled Japanese shoemakers manufacture the shoes.
About the manufacturing process
Plus Talk sneakers are made using a method called vulcanization, which is different from the usual method of making sneakers. The sole and upper are sewn together with a special sewing machine, just like regular leather shoe manufacturing. This means that you can enjoy your shoes for a long time without the sole peeling off.
In addition, the sole is made of EVA Ethylen-Vinyl Acetate (ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer resin) instead of rubber, which is elastic and flexible and does not harden easily even in cold winters, making it comfortable to wear and easy to walk in. This material does not contain chlorine, so it does not produce dioxins when incinerated and is easy to recycle. It can be said to be an environmentally friendly material.
